Suede Bags from Tan to Dark Brown
The color range spans from light tan and beige through cognac to deep dark brown, along with olive, khaki, gray, and burgundy. A suede bag in brown is the classic among them and makes up a good two-thirds of the selection, because the warm brown pairs just as well with jeans as with a wool coat and ankle boots. If you prefer something lighter, reach for tan or cognac; if you’re after contrast, choose a suede bag in dark brown. You’ll find all the brown shades of the range gathered at the brown handbags, and the olive-colored models at the green handbags.
Suede bags as shopper, hobo bag, and bucket bag
A suede bag for women comes here in every everyday size: hobo bags with a softly falling curve, large tote bags and shoppers for laptop and shopping, compact shoulder bags, drawstring pouches, and belt bags for days without luggage. Almost all models have an adjustable shoulder strap and a cotton lining with a zip pocket, and many also have two open inner pockets. If you’re looking for a suede bag to wear across the body, the crossbody bags bring together all the crossbody models, while the soft drawstring shapes are found among the bucket bags.
Suede bags with fringe and boho details
Many styles feature fringe along the sides and bottom, macramé knots, or braided handles in smooth leather, and a few also have studs or leopard print. A braided suede bag looks calmer than smooth leather, because the roughened surface absorbs light instead of reflecting it. The soft drape of the material enhances the movement of the fringe with every step, without the bag ever feeling loud. More fringed styles, also in raffia and smooth leather, can be found in Fringed bags.
Suede bags: also called suede leather
The shop lists suede, sometimes searched for as suede leather or napped leather - all three describe the same thing: leather whose fiber side is roughened until a fine, matte surface forms. A brown suede bag is therefore exactly the same product as a brown suede leather bag, the difference is only in the wording. Anyone looking for the smooth version will find it among the leather bags, where the same shapes are made with a smooth, finished grain side.
Why our suede bags keep up with everyday life
For a bag that's carried every day, it's the lining, the closure, and the strap that decide whether it still brings joy after a year. That's why our styles are made from genuine cowhide with a roughened suede surface, finished with a cotton lining and a zippered inner pocket, and feature a magnetic clasp, drawstring, or zipper depending on the shape, along with an adjustable strap with carabiner clips. Every piece is handmade at Anokhi, so no two bags are ever quite alike.
FAQ about suede bags
What is suede? +
Suede is leather where the roughened fiber side faces outward instead of the smooth grain side, creating the typical velvety, matte finish. It isn't a special type of hide from a wild animal: what we use is cowhide that has been finished as suede.
Is suede genuine leather? +
Yes. Suede is genuine leather and differs from smooth leather only in how the surface is finished. For our bags, the material field always lists suede and cowhide - never faux leather or a textile suede imitation.
How do you clean a suede bag? +
Work dry: dust and light marks come out with a suede brush, and matted patches soften up again when brushed against the nap. A suede bag should never go in the washing machine, and wet leather should never be dried on a radiator. A protective spray before you first wear it makes the surface less sensitive to water.
Is suede leather the same as suede? +
Colloquially, yes. Suede leather and suede both refer to the same roughened leather; our product texts use the term suede. Nubuck is related, but it’s only lightly buffed, which makes it feel smoother than the suede used in our bags.
